Chardham Yatra

Numerous temples may be found in Uttarakhand, also known as Devbhoomi or the Land of Gods, which welcomes visitors throughout the year. The Char Dham Yatra is one of the most well-known of the various religious sites and circuits that pilgrims travel through Uttarakhand. This Yatra, or pilgrimage, takes visitors on a journey of five sacred locations in the Himalayas: Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, Badrinath, and Haridwar. In Hindi, the words "char" and "dham" denote the number four and holy locations, respectively.

The high-altitude shrines open in the spring (April or May), close as winter arrives (October or November), and are closed for around six months each year. According to popular belief, one should perform the Char Dham Yatra in a clockwise direction. As a result, the pilgrimage begins in Yamunotri, continues through Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath before coming to an end. Road or air travel (helicopter services are offered) are both options for getting there. Some followers even go on Dham Yatra or pilgrimages to Kedarnath and Badrinath.

The Yamunotri temple is devoted to Goddess Yamuna and is located in the Uttarkashi area close to the source of the River Yamuna, which is the second-most sacred river in India after the River Ganga. The most revered of all Indian rivers, the Ganga, is honoured in Gangotri in the Uttarkashi district. Kedarnath, a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, is situated in the Rudraprayag district. Lord Vishnu is the focus of Badrinath, which houses the revered Badrinarayan Temple. In the northern Indian state of Uttarakhand, where the Ganges River emerges from the Himalayan foothills, is the historic city of Haridwar, a significant Hindu pilgrimage location. The Char Dham Yatra is both divine and exhausting, yet it also satisfies the soul!
